Meet a Polish award-winning writer and journalist, Witold Szablowski, at the Round Rock Public Library. He will share stories behind his fascinating reportages and books that look at the world through the eyes of personal cooks of the world’s infamous dictators. The meeting will be moderated by a veteran journalist and professor of journalism Erna Smith.
Cooking demonstrations of some of the dishes inspired by the recipes from his books will spice up the event. The audience will be invited to taste them.
Book signing will be a part of the event.

About the moderator Erna Smith
Erna Smith worked for 15 years as a reporter, editor and copy editor at several newspapers, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Minneapolis Star and the Wall Street Journal. She had been a professor of journalism at San Francisco State University and the former chair of the Journalism Department there. Her academic career included nine years at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication through which she also directed the summer internship program for graduate students in Cape Town, South Africa. Author of several studies on race and the media, Erna was a fellow at Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center on Press, Politics and Public Policy, where she conducted a study of television news coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. For her work, she has received several honors, including the Barry Bingham Fellowship from the National Council of Editorial Writers and the Distinguished Service award from the Northern California chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. From 2016 till her recent retirement, Erna had been a lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin school of Journalism.
